Media Contact: David McDowell or Catherine Pappas Phone: 734-994-4442 A "home away from home" is provided to more than 600 families of hospitalized children each year at Ann Arbor's Ronald McDonald House. The House, an independent non-profit organization, can host 29 families per night, with stays ranging from one or two days to several months. Located two blocks from the University of Michigan hospital, 80 percent of the House's operating budget comes from donations made by individuals, groups and businesses. Nearly 150 volunteers provide service to families or serve on committees such as House operations, fundraising and special events. (More information about volunteer and donor opportunities can be found in the How you can help section of this site or from Ronald McDonald House by calling 734-994-4442.) Each year, many special events, including a golf tournament, are held to raise money for Ronald McDonald House. (To learn more about the golf outing and other news regarding Ronald McDonald House, go to House events.) Ann Arbor's Ronald McDonald House is one of more than 260 licensed Ronald
McDonald Houses around the world. The first Ronald McDonald House opened
in Philadelphia in 1974. Ann Arbor's Ronald McDonald House opened in 1985
and has since served more than 12,000 families. (See Our
story for more information.)
