Volunteer requirements

Shift information
Each volunteer works a three hour shift every other week. Shifts are available seven days a week. The three hour blocks are as follows:
9:00 am – 12:00 pm
3:00 – 6:00 pm
12:00 – 3:00 pm
6:00 – 9:00 pm

Two volunteers are assigned to each shift. You are responsible for your shift. It is your obligation to find a substitute when conflicts arise with your shift.

Job responsibilities

  • Checking in and checking out families 
  • Answering phones
  • Giving house tours
  • Bookkeeping
  • Routine tasks for daily operation of the House
  • Helping out with family chores

Time commitment
Community Residents: 1 year minimum commitment
University Students: 8 month minimum commitment

Training/orientation
Orientation begins with a House tour. Formal training occurs on your first shift

Miscellaneous information
As a volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House, you have limited contact with children. The house is a haven for the families of the sick children. Since you will interact with individuals from all geographic, socio-economic and ethnic/racial backgrounds, you must be compassionate, responsible, flexible and most of all, able to have fun!
